Albert Coutinho Memorial Scholarship Fund
Al served with distinction as an Advisory Board member of The Salvation Army Newark Area Services and as Program Chair for the Ironbound Soccer Club. In both roles, he brought not only leadership, but deep conviction, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to the people of our city. He often shared the Ironbound Soccer Club was the child that he never had.
More than any title he held, Al was a true champion for Newark’s youth. His passion for soccer was not just about the game itself, but about what it represented—opportunity, discipline, belonging, and hope. He firmly believed that no child should ever be denied the chance to experience the beauty of the game because of financial barriers. That belief wasn’t just something he spoke about—it was something he worked tirelessly to ensure became a reality.
